This small island south of Kyushu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and deservedly so. Traversing it on foot in four days, I came across sandy beaches, mangroves, mountain peaks, 3000-year old cedars, moss-covered ravines, waterfalls, and most importantly, monkeys.
